Volkswagen Beetle Tyre Pressure

The Volkswagen Beetle is an iconic car that ceased production in July 2019 due to declining sales. The model was first produced in 1938 in Nazi-ruled Germany and came to the United States in 1949. For the next 30 years, the car became synonymous with the hippie movement as the Beetle was championed for its versatility and practicality. Nearly 600,000 Beetles were sold in the U.S. in 1970 alone. However, by the end of the decade, the VW Beetle was no longer available in the U.S. as the American market opted for larger vehicles like Oldsmobile Cutlass, Toyota Corolla, and the Chevrolet Impala. The classic Beetle was finally discontinued worldwide in 2003 after selling over 21 million units during its lifetime.

It’s worth noting that the public named the car “Beetle” and coined its nickname, “Bug”. Volkswagen had simply called the model, “Type 1” and only officially changed its name in the late ’60s due to the popularity of the car. It was the ingrained love for the Beetle that prompted Volkswagen to reintroduce this classic car, with an updated chassis, in 1998. They simply called this iteration the “New Beetle”.

Unexpectedly, the rebranded model didn’t have universal appeal and their market was restricted almost exclusively to female buyers. To invigorate the male market, the New Beetle went through a significant design change in 2012, which included a flatter roof, bigger trunk, and a less “cute” bulbous shape. It also removed the classic vase from its interior. In recent years, Volkswagen produced many editions, including coupe and convertible models, hoping they’d appeal to their niche market. However, none of these tactics could excite a clientele and the New Beetle has been discontinued.

It is noteworthy, however, that original Beetles are a valuable commodity, with these vintage cars demanding a fee of $60,000-$80,000. The highest price paid to date was $117,000 for a 1963 “Herbie” Beetle in 2015. VW Beetles may not be being produced any longer but their legacy lives on.

The story of the Volkswagen Bora is quite interesting. VW Bora first appeared in Europe in 1999. For the rest of the world, it was known as the Jetta. China is the only other region that also had VW Jetta rebadged as Bora and still has it today. In China, the Jetta is badged as VW Bora. In Europe, VW Bora was produced between 1999 and 2005. After 2005, it was renamed Jetta and thus it has the same name worldwide except for China.

The 1999-2005 was the fifth Jetta generation. It was renamed to VW Bora. The Bora shared many elements with the Golf but it aimed to be a cheaper alternative to the VW Passat which was larger and used higher quality materials for the interior. It featured curved lines with rectangular headlights and a rather simple and dull overall design.

Today, the Bora (China) is badged as the VW Jetta and was discontinued for the European market. It continues to be sold in other regions including the US. The latest model has more aggressive body lines, more creases, narrower headlights and taillights, and an overall sporty look. It is available in several different petrol engine version including a 2-liter model, capable of an output of 228 bhp for the GLI version. The old model of Bora used a wider range of petrol engines including a 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and a 2.0-liter depending on the market. Amongst these engines, there were options to go for a natural aspirated one or turbo petrol for greater torque and power. Some markets even got two diesel engines to choose from.

In terms of competition and market, the Bora was the main competitor against the Skoda Octavia in Europe which was the same class car. It was also comparable in terms of size and price with the Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra or the Chevrolet Cruze. Sadly, the VW Bora did not get much traction in terms of sales in the US and after 2005 it was reintroduced as the Jetta.

Volkswagen Jetta is a front-wheel drive car, which was put into production in 1979, targeting basically to US market. VW Jetta was based on the first VW Golf platform. The production of 5th generation was begun in 2005. There were many different engines with the capacity 102-170hp. The sixth generation of the sedan was started in 2011. The name of the model was still Jetta in the European market,

The world was introduced to the VW Scirocco back in 1974. The three-door sports coupe evolved into a second-generation but due to poor sales, the series was discontinued. All engine options were available with a 6-speed manual and a 6 or 7-speed double-clutch automatic transmission.

As far as design goes, the Scirocco is quite easy to spot in traffic. It has a modern look with an aggressive front bumper hiding large grills. The headlights are quite narrow while the hood goes downwards at an angle towards the front, increasing the overall aggressiveness of the car. The tail of the car features a widened back bumper but the car itself becomes narrower at the top as the side pillars bend inwards. The interior is quite reminiscent to the interior of the VW Golf 5 but with more instruments and better interior materials.

Since the production of the Scirocco ended in 2008, drivers will have to look at alternatives. The Golf GTI is a good alternative, especially the three-door version. There is also the Alfa Romeo Brera but it comes with a higher price tag. BMW also offers the Z4 Coupe which is quite similar to the Scirocco. Other than these cars, there are not many alternatives. The ones that are considering a Scirocco might be tempted to check some hot hatches as well such as the Renault Clio, Hyundai i30 or even the Ford Focus.

The increasing demand from the US and European market for SUVs and crossovers lead to the introduction of the Volkswagen Tiguan. In terms of design, the current generation of the VW Tiguan uses more aggressive lines. The front hood, as well as the sides of the crossover, hide longitudinal creases and less rounded shapes, giving it a more aggressive look. The headlights and taillights are narrower and with more sharp edges.

The interior of the Tiguan makes use of an ergonomic design language with a large infotainment display placed next to the steering wheel between the passenger and driver. Air vents have been placed above the infotainment system and on the sides, giving it a clean aspect especially on the passenger side. Chromed metal ornaments have been placed on the dashboard as well as on the doors, like with any VW model. The steering wheel will feel familiar as it is the same one as used in the latest VW Passat, Golf and Polo.

The Volkswagen Type 2 van was created on the VW Beetle platform in 1949, and in 1950 the serial production of cars was begun at the Wolfsburg factory, in Germany. The engine was located at the rear part of the vehicle, so that the rear wall was not able to open initially. Volkswagen Type 2 had an air-cooled engine taken from VW Beetle with capacity 1.1 liter (25 hp).

The Volkswagen Up was unveiled at the 2011 international motor show in Germany, and production of the car began in December of the same year; this model of the vehicle had been a concept car since 2007. Although the concept car had a rear-engine and rear-wheel drive layout, the final version changed both to be a front-engine and front-wheel drive layout. Volkswagen did, however, produce the first cars with three doors, the same as the 2007 concept version.

Currently, three different variations of the Up are available from VW; first, there is the Volkswagen Take Up, this is an entry-level version of the car that has the lowest price tag of the three, but still has a lot of great features. Next, there is the Volkswagen Move Up, this is the mid-range model, although it is only slighter more expensive than the Take Up, and in turn has more features and more comfort. All three are available as three-door or five-door.

Although the car has always been received generally favorably, even winning Car of the Year in 2012, the Up has limitations in the market, and where it is sold; since the car has been designed with narrow European streets in mind, the Up has never entered the market in North America, nor has it been made available to buy in the majority of Asia.

However, it does rank the highest in sales by a long way among its competitors, even if the competitors are themselves. Skoda and Seat, both owned by Volkswagen, produce two cars in the same factory that are nearly identical, the Seat Mii, and the Skoda Cotigo, they are rebadged versions of the Up, the only difference to look at is the front and rear fascia design.

The Up is a perfect city car due to its size and the perfect first car due to its lower engine power, it is stylish and sleek, and looks like it will be around for a long time.
